READ Program

The READ Summer School is an intensive reading program designed to address the immense impacts of the pandemic and typhoon on children's education. Many young children cannot read or write sufficiently, and illiteracy's impact on their future is enormous.

READ summer school addresses this by teaching students to read and preparing them for their return to regular schooling.

On our first batch of the READ Summer School, we taught 232 students how to read in just eight weeks. With the help of our excellent local tutors from all over Northern Siargao, we prepared the graduates for their return to face-to-face schooling after two years of modular learning.

As summer comes to an end, the READ program will continue as an after-class tutoring program with the goal of helping the local schools teach every student how to read.
